Anger part 2

1. Let’s begin from one major effect of anger by taking a look at the scripture

A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out.

Proverbs 25:28 MSG

Let’s see one more translation

Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected] Is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble].

PROVERBS 25:28 AMP

So we see being unable to control oneself, letting anger come out leaves us unprotected. Let’s look into that scripture. It is one thing to build a city, it takes time, resources etc but the sad news is it’s faster to lose a thing that to build it. Anger keeps you open for the devil to take what you have built at will. During my nysc, there was a guy who really cared about a lady and hoped to date her but one day, they had a misunderstanding and the lady started raining insults on him out of anger. The insults were really uncalled for as she was even at fault but she let anger have its way and guess what the guy did. He didn’t fight or shout he just decided in his heart never to have anything to do with her again. She later came to beg, people talked to him ( colleagues and all ) but she refused and that was the end of what could have been a beautiful relationship. Now according to that scripture, the lady in question here was a city without walls so the enemy simply walked in and took what he wanted and in this case it was her relationship.

I have countless stories.

I swapped my iPhone one time for a Samsung out of anger and in the process people in the shop where I did the swap almost taught I stole the phone cause they didn’t understand why I would do that. ( Anger ). Anger breaks down your defences against the evil one.

2. Is there an acceptable type of anger?

Be angry [at sin–at immorality, at injustice, at ungodly behaviour], yet do not sin; do not let your anger [cause you shame, nor allow it to] last until the sun goes down.

EPHESIANS 4:26 AMP

I love this translation. The only time we are permitted to be angry is at the things listed above and even so, we are not permitted to sin out of that righteous* anger… Take note of “cause you shame”. Our speaker last night gave an example of cursing out of anger ( I’m pretty sure it was righteous anger cause her uncle lied ) and that caused her shame cause her mum said: ” I thought you were a Christian” so you see, there are no excuses for the evil actions birthed in anger. With this scripture, I’m sure we now see that there are things we are permitted to be angry at. So yes there is “permitted anger”.

3. One Major cause of anger: We’ll be looking at Self-centredness .

We live in a society where everyone wants to prove they are something “if you do anyhow you go see anyhow” kind of thing. If I don’t react, people will think I am weak, how can you say that to me, how dare you to touch my stuff without telling me. Most of the reasons we get angry are rooted in Self-centredness. Try and remove yourself from the picture. I was on a bus in the north and it’s usually very crowded in buses here. A guy stepped into the bus and stepped on my shoes not only that, he kept his foot there throughout and without any apologies. Normally ego will tell you “dude show this guy something” but I decided to look at him and turn away from self.

When I did I discovered there was nowhere else for him to keep his foot because the whole bus was full.

He was so uncomfortable, he just had to rest one foot on mine. So I smiled and didn’t say a word. If you focus on self you will always have your emotions rule over you but if you focus on the other you will be in control.

Anger comes easily when you are self-centred

Mixing this with the Righteous anger you’ll get a perfect reaction in situations that make you angry or that you are permitted to get angry about. When Jesus was being crucified he didn’t curse the Romans, re prayed for them why? He was focused on them, not his pain. There was a painting I saw of Jesus looking angry but when I studied the Scripture, it was not so

And Jesus entered the temple [grounds] and drove out [with force] all who were buying and selling [birds and animals for sacrifice] in the temple area , and He turned over the tables of the moneychangers [who made a profit exchanging foreign money for temple coinage] and the chairs of those who were selling doves [for sacrifice].

MATTHEW 21:12 AMP

Anger wasn’t mentioned not once you can check all the translations but guess what happened next … He went right on to heal the sick lol to show you He wasn’t dwelling in anger. I had to share this so you’ll know there are times you must act even though you must not sin. Speak against the act don’t insult the actor. Condemn the crime, not criminals ( that’s not your job ). Discipline your children because you love them not out of anger.

See below

and you have forgotten the divine word of encouragement which is addressed to you as sons, “My son, do not make light of the discipline of the Lord, And do not lose heart and give up when you are corrected by Him ; For the Lord disciplines and corrects those whom He loves , And He punishes every son whom He receives and welcomes [ to H is heart ].”

HEBREWS 12:5‭-‬6 AMP

Let your actions be rooted IN LOVE.

4. One major way to deal with anger.

When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and destroy them?” But He turned and rebuked them [and He said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”] And they journeyed on to another village.

LUKE 9:54‭-‬56 AMP

You can overcome anger by the Spirit of Love THE HOLY SPIRIT. Anger is a devilish spirit so also Love is a Spirit ( not a feeling).

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:8 KJV

Extra lesson: No man or woman can love you outside God, it’s simply impossible because GOD IS LOVE.

It is my prayer that God will teach us by His Spirit how to rule over our emotions and be more like Him in Jesus name.
