God is a Refuge for us

A short teaching taught by Allen Oghale Ossuetta

An introduction to our speaker

I’ll start my teaching today with a short observation. Back when I was living in Port-Harcourt Nigeria, I noticed there was this thing little children did, especially, when they played games like Police & thief or Catcher. While been chased, they will run behind an adult and say “I’m in his/her hands” and it’s almost as if that adult is obligated to protect them. Even when it wasn’t a game and they were actually in trouble, they would just find an older person they’ll run behind them to take refuge.

Now, I would love for us to take a look at the meaning of the word refuge.

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines Refuge as “shelter or protection from danger or distress”.

The main text for today’s teaching is Psalm 62:8 (KJV)-
“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah”…

From these, we understand that, God is our shelter or protection from danger or disaster.

Let’s take a look at another version, Psalm 62:8 (AMP)– . “Trust in, lean on, rely on, and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is a refuge for us (a fortress and a high tower) Selah”.

Let’s take a little bit of time and meditate on that scripture..

Your protection or refuge determines how safe you are and how calm you should and would be in the face of danger.

In a country where the level of insecurity is very high;
• Those in houses with wooden doors feel/are safer than those without shelter.
• Those with iron doors feel/are safer than those with wooden doors.
• Those with iron doors, a fence and a dog feel/are a lot safer.
• Those with iron doors, dogs, armed security personnel and a fence feel/are a lot safer than all of the above.
• The location matters as well because if the individual with the wooden door lives in a military barracks, he might actually be safer than the person with the armed guards if that person lives in the midst of his enemies.

This example has shown us that two things matter when you take refuge;
1. What your refuge is. This tells you it’s quality and ability to protect you.
2. Where your refuge is located.

1• Let’s begin with “What your refuge is”…

Who is this God that is our refuge?

Knowing Him will make us understand the level of protection we receive when we take refuge in Him.

Job 26:7‭-‬14 (AMPC) says and I quote, “He it is Who spreads out the northern skies over emptiness and hangs the earth upon or over nothing. He holds the waters bound in His clouds [which otherwise would spill on earth all at once], and the cloud is not rent under them. He covers the face of His throne and spreads over it His cloud. He has placed an enclosing limit [the horizon] upon the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. The pillars of the heavens tremble and are astonished at His rebuke. He stills or stirs up the sea by His power, and by His understanding He smites proud Rahab. By His breath the heavens are garnished; His hand pierced the [swiftly] fleeing serpent. [Ps. 33:6.] Yet these are but [a small part of His doings] the outskirts of His ways or the *mere fringes of His force,* the faintest whisper of His voice! Who dares contemplate or who can understand the thunders of His full, magnificent power”?🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

It is impossible to describe the fullness of God’s power and ability. I will add one more scripture but before that, scroll back up and read the above scripture slowly one more time.

The second scripture is Isaiah 66:1(KJV)-
“Thus saith the Lord , The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool”.
.
Now that we have a glimpse of “WHO” or permit me to use WHAT our refuge is, we see that our security in His ability is absolute!! None can deliver from His hand. The entire Earth is His foot stool, this means that all your enemies are underneath His feet! Hallelujah.💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼

2• Where is he Situated?

The location of your refuge determines the level and longevity of your protection.

First scripture, 1 Timothy 6:16 (AMP)-
“He alone possesses immortality [absolute exemption from death] and lives in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal power and dominion! Amen”.

He lives in unapproachable light, Wow!. Do you know there is a level of brightness that even if your eyes are shut you won’t be about to bear?

You think the sun is bright? Try approaching God in His Glory.

Let’s add a supporting scripture, Revelation 22:5 (AMP)- “And there will no longer be night; they have no need for lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will reign [as kings] forever and ever”.

This scripture tells us that the light we talked about in the first scripture reading comes from God. He Himself is that light so it is going no where. Wherever He goes, His location, Glory and Might goes with Him so it will never run out! Hallelujah.

One more scripture about His Location , John 14:23 (TPT)- “Jesus replied, “Loving me empowers you to obey my word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you and make you our dwelling place”.

This is amazing, this scripture just said that you can become the dwelling place of such a mighty God. Now what this means is that, you carry your refuge everywhere you go. Make no mistake Jesus wasn’t killed, he laid down His life. He told us he could command angels to come save Him but thank God He didn’t.

Friend, the Lord your God is your REFUGE!

So, Why then do believers suffer and get “destroyed”?

Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God”. Matthew 22:29 (NLT).

.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children”. Hosea 4:6 (KJV).
.
Without knowledge, you will perish even though God is your refuge.

It is my prayer that by this teaching today, God will open your eyes to see how secure you are in/with Him. 🙂
